Car Insurance Eagle (Car Insurance). What causes this white smoke to come from exhaust?

What causes this white smoke to come from exhaust? I have a 98 Mercury Tracer. On start up white smoke BILLOWS out of the exhaust pipe. What could cause this? I heard that it could be gas leaking into the cylinder. If so is that dangerous? The needle on my gas gauge is also broken. It is in the dash though, not in the fuel tank. Would my low fuel light still come on?

White smoke like cloud that will disappear shortly is no big deal. it's normal just check your coolant reservoir make sure your coolant level is the same and does not decrease. my old car used to do the same thing. White smoke is water, so it could be normal or it could be coolant is leaking into the cylinder. Does it continue to blow out lots of smoke after 5 minutes? If so, you may have a problem. it sounds like you may have a head gasket leaking. when coolant leakes into the cylinders after the engine cools down ,, when you restart the engine it will burn white and have a sweet smell to it . this may also cause the cooling system to get combustion gases in it thus causing an overheat condition. it sounds like the car has a number of issues and it may be time to look for another you have over heating problems sounds like engine head gasket leaking water into exhaust causing steam. antifreeze when burned threw a motor produces Your white smoke. more than likely head gasket,if it quits smoking after a while,it is a small leak, from what you say about billowing its leaking into your chambers after shutdown. clearing up after restart, slight leak, fix it before its major The smoke is coming from a leak in your head gasket leaking water into the cylinders. As for the gas light, if it is just the needle broken off from the gauge then yes your gas light will come on as long as the floating sensor in your tank is working properly. They usually don't so you should be fine.

Eagle . Evacuate Refrigerant & Recharge Procedures

While much of the repair and maintenance work on your vehicle's air-conditioning system is easy enough to accomplish by the home mechanic, there some laws governing the release of refrigerant into the atmosphere that must be followed, or stiff fines could follow. Aimed at preventing damage to the ozone layer, Section 609 of the Clean Air Act requires the recovery of automotive air conditioning refrigerant prior to repairs. What this means is that it is no longer possible to simply evacuate a system, and recharge an automotive a/c system.
Recovery
Recover any refrigerant in the system before evacuating and charging to prevent release of refrigerant into the atmosphere during the evacuation procedure. Attach a recovery machine to the a/c system and allow the machine to recover refrigerant, and hold a 10 in/hg vacuum for at least 5 minutes. The equipment to accomplish this task is very expensive and well outside the home mechanics comfort level. However, your local auto repair shop can provide this service for you at a reasonable cost.
Evacuate
Evacuate the system by attaching a set of a/c gauges to the service ports, and a vacuum pump to the service hose on the gauge set. This process removes any moisture in the system, and is critical to the proper operation of the system. Allow the vacuum pump to run for one hour. During this time, the vacuum pulled on the system will lower the boiling point of any moisture, turn it into vapor, and remove it from the system.
Recharge
Close the service valves on your gauge set and remove the vacuum pump. Attach a can tap, and a can of refrigerant to the system, and open the blue low-pressure service valve located on the gauge set to allow refrigerant to enter the system. Never open the red high-pressure service valve. The pressure developed on this side of the a/c system will cause the can to explode. Start the engine, set the a/c controls to the highest level, and fill the system to the recommended capacity. The capacity is on a tag located under the hood, or in a service manual. A can of refrigerant holds 12 oz. A common mistake is to assume that the can holds 16 oz. (one pound) and under-charge the system.

Eagle . How to Add Freon to a PT Cruiser

Your PT Cruiser air conditioner may begin to blow warm air over time or take an excessively long time to cool down. These are signs that your vehicle's air conditioning unit needs to be recharged with freon refrigerant. A local mechanic can recharge your PT Cruiser's air conditioning unit; however, the job is costly and time consuming. An alternative to bringing your vehicle into the shop is to recharge the air conditioner yourself. After completing the necessary steps to recharge the system, enjoy cool air in your PT Cruiser once again.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Owner's manual
R134a refrigerant

Step by Step :
1
Allow the PT Cruiser to cool down at least a half hour before beginning any work on the vehicle.
2
Locate the service fittings on your vehicle's air conditioning unit. Refer to your PT Cruiser owner's manual for the exact location. The high-side fitting is located on the hose that goes from the compressor to the condenser. The low-side fitting is found on the suction hose that runs from the accumulator to the condenser.
3
Attach the recharge hose to the valve on the can of R134a. See the instructions on the side of the can.
4
Puncture the top of the R134a can by twisting the valve to the "on" position. This releases a small amount of air and coolant. Close it immediately by turning the valve to the "off" position to avoid wasting any extra vapors.
5
Connect the service hose on the can of R134a to the low-side service fitting. Turn the PT Cruiser's engine on, and switch the air conditioning settings over to the highest setting.
6
Open the valve on the can of R134a by turning it to the "on" position, allowing the vapors to charge the air conditioning unit.
7
Allow the can of R134a to charge the air conditioning unit until the can is completely empty or until the air in the vehicle reaches maximum coolness. Turn the valve to the "off" position and turn the engine off, once charging is complete.
8
Remove the can of R134a from the low-side fitting and close the hood of the vehicle.

It's a good idea to own a copy of the service manual for your vehicle, even if you just lend it to the independent shops that work on your car. There's no way that they can keep a copy of every service manual, and access to specific instructions for servicing and repairing your particular vehicle can significantly cut the time — and therefore the cost — involved in doing a job. <«" Look in the lubrication manual. Every service station has a lubrication manual that's published by one of the major oil companies each year. These manuals show every lube point and grease fitting for every vehicle manufactured during the year of publication. Your service station probably has the last couple of years' manuals on hand. If you don't have a service manual, ask to see the lube manual if you're having trouble locating the lube points on your vehicle. e* Ask a professional. If you really have trouble finding your ball joints and you're unwilling to throw yourself at the mercy of a service station just for a look at the lube manual, give in and take the car in for a lube job someplace where they'll let you hang around and ask questions. Casually ask for a look at the lube manual or ask them to point out the lube points that they're going to work on. Say, "How many lube points does this model have?" They're usually happy to show you and answer your questions. People who work on cars love to talk shop (and most of them never suspect that "civilians" are secretly planning to do the work themselves next time). If you get a real talkative technician, you've found a gold mine; be sure to ask about the rest of the job, too. Lubricating the butt joints Lubing ball joints is really as simple as wiping the zerk fitting, fitting the grease gun onto it (use an adapter if you need one), and gently squeezing a little grease into the joint. The following takes you step-by-step through the procedure: 1. Find out how many lube points your car has and where they are. See the preceding section, "Finding the lube points," for help. 2. Wipe off the first zerk fitting and try to fit your gun to it. Does it fit? If not, you may need an adapter. Can you reach it? If not, you may need an extender. 774 Car Insurance 2005 mazda mpv 301307

Place the grease gun to the fitting and gently squeeze a little bit of grease into it (see Figure 16-5). Never add so much grease that the ball is tightly packed. There should be plenty of give when you squeeze the sides of the ball. If the joint looks too hard and full, squeeze some grease out if you have the kind of fitting that has a back door. If you have a sealed joint, just add enough grease to fill it out a little. If the joint looks full before you start, don't

Dealing with an overfilled joint isn't terribly pleasant — it's time-consuming and messy — so be careful to squeeze the grease in a little at a time. I know this because I've done it, and those teeny greasy zerk fittings are hard to hang on to. But if you goof, take heart. If "Thumbs" Sclar can do it, so can you! 7. If one or more of your ball joints boots has burst, have it (or them) replaced immediately. The parts that these joints protect get a lot of action, and you can be in for a very expensive job (or risk losing your ability to steer) after a very short trip on a nonfunctioning ball joint. 2 CQ Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System \V ^ When you buy a new vehicle, ask the service manager if there are any trouble "~^ spots on the model that may benefit from having grease fittings inserted. I had several installed on my new truck for very little money. If you have a persistent squeak, you may want to find out whether having a grease fitting installed in the area will quiet things down. Lubricating the Suspension System The suspension system technically includes the steering linkage, but in my mind, it's easier to deal with these things in terms of the functions they perform. Therefore, try to see the steering linkage as being concerned with the horizontal directions in which the car can go (left and right) and the suspension system as being concerned with the vertical movement (up and down) of the car as it travels over the road. The following sections detail how to lubricate parts of your suspension system. (If the suspension system itself gets out of whack, get a professional to diagnose and deal with the trouble.)

Lubricating the springs Various types of springs are used to absorb bumps and keep your vehicle level on turns. These can be coil springs, leaf springs, torsion bars, or air springs. Some cars have leaf springs at the rear wheels and coil springs at the front wheels. Some luxury cars, full-size trucks, and buses have air suspension systems. For more detailed information about each type of spring, see Chapter 11. The following list explains what you need to lubricate and how to do it, depending on the type of spring that you have: " Leaf springs: Each end of a set of leaf springs is attached to the frame at the rear of the car with fittings that enable the springs to bend and move freely. These fittings usually have rubber bushings that enable the fittings to bend and twist freely and also absorb some of the vibration and prevent it from reaching the passenger compartment (see Figure 16-6). If your leaf springs have more than one leaf per side, called multiple leaf springs, there may be a piece of plastic between the leaves. That plastic, called a slipper, can be lubed with suspension grease to prevent noise as the leaves slide over one another during jounce and rebound. .
